Environment Friendly Design
|
Environmental concerns were fully addressed prior to the construction of the power station. Consultants specialising in environmental protection were engaged to conduct an environmental impact study in 1993. Tuas Power Station was thus designed and constructed with built-in environmental friendly features.
 Oily Water Treatment Plant
Responsible Waste Treatment
An example of this is the comprehensive network of waste collection systems that span the entire compound of the power station. Various types of wastes arising from electricity generation (oily wastes, wastewater and chemical waste) are segregated and treated in dedicated waste treatment facilities. These elaborate facilities ensure the recycling of resources as well as a safe and environment friendly discharge of wastes.
 Bund walls for Chemical Tanks
Mitigation of Environmental Hazards
The Station has also included in its design extra features that pre-empt any potential environmental hazards. For instance, all chemical tank yards are surrounded by bund walls which serve as a secondary containment. The tank yards are also connected to chemical-resistant underground tanks, where neutralisation facilities are in place. In addition, cut-off valves are installed across drains at strategic locations to contain any chemical spillage within the confined perimeter of the power station.
 Electrostatic Precipitators
Minimal Emission to Atmosphere
The Station is equipped with high efficiency electrostatic precipitators that remove dust from flue gas generated from electricity production. Advanced fuel combustion systems including low NOx burners and the neutralisation of acid traces from the flue gas also ensure minimal emission to atmosphere.
