Our Approach to Safety
Tuas Power has a systematic approach to health and safety management that achieves continuous performance improvement. On 16 December 2005, we achieved the internationally acclaimed OHSAS 18001:1999 accreditation for the operation and maintenance of Tuas Power Station.

This health and safety standard is supported by detailed standards of risk management that address areas of highest risk. We continuously look for ways to reduce risks in our operations and services.

Behaviour-Based Safety

The best standards and systems are only effective if people comply with them and act safely. For this reason, Tuas Power actively nurtures the behaviour-based safety culture within the Company. Our safety practices and procedures are constantly reviewed and enhanced to encourage our employees to take ownership of the safety of themselves as well as the people around them. The promotion of behaviour-based safety is also extended to our partners, such as suppliers, contractors and the Union.

Behaviour-based safety involves a process that focuses on three elements, namely: personal responsibility, individual consequences and proactive interventions. Key to the success of this is the ownership to uphold safety practices among employees.

Several initiatives were launched since August 2006 to heighten the awareness of a behaviour-based safety culture. These include the launch of a Health and Safety Week, a Safety Improvement Suggestion Scheme and other efforts to increase general awareness of safety among all stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, partners and associates who were working with our employees on site.
