Combined Heat and Power Systems
Tuas Power pioneered the introduction of highly efficient Combined Heat and Power Systems such as Cogeneration and Trigeneration plants to large manufacturing facilities such as pharmaceutical and petrochemical plants in Singapore to help them increase their energy efficiency, reduce utility costs, and at the same time, contribute to environmental sustainability.

Cogeneration involves the generation of two utilities, namely power and heat.

Trigeneration is therefore the generation of three utilities. A typical trigeneration system would produce power, heat and chilled water.

The heat that is generated can be used to make steam for process or directly applied in a furnace or heat exchanger.

TPGS Green Energy, a joint venture between Tuas Power and Gas Supply Pte Ltd, was set up to help clients implement such systems without the burden of high startup costs, by co-funding, building and managing the plants over a long term. This thus allows customers to focus on their core business.

To date, TPGS Green Energy has developed and built two large-scale onsite trigeneration plants for pharmaceutical companies Pfizer Asia Pacific Inc, and Schering-Plough LTD, as well as a 10MW cogeneration plant for reputed chemical producer ISK Singapore Pte Ltd. These plants are currently being maintained by TP Asset Management Pte Ltd, under long term contracts with the clients.
