In FY07/08, competition intensified due to the entry of a new player in electricity generation.
However, Tuas Power Supply Pte Ltd (TPS) was still able to achieve a market share of
22.6 per cent of customers in the electricity retail market. This was a slight increase from
21.9 per cent the previous year. TPS also successfully maintained a high retention rate
of more than 80 per cent of our existing customers. This can be attributed to both
the continuous enhancement of systems, processes and people, as well as our drive
to meet customers’ needs through constant innovation and refinement of our products
and services.
Encouraging energy efficiency
Conservation of resources such as energy is a key focus for the Tuas Power group. As part of
our resource conservation efforts, we launched the Tuas Power Green Programme in September
2007. The first of its kind in Singapore, this initiative seeks to cater to the needs of enterprises
and the environment in practical ways. Under the programme, regular energy audits help our
customers to understand their energy usage and identify the means to cut wastage. This allows
us to add value to our customers by saving them energy dollars. At the same time, increasing the
energy efficiency of their businesses helps them minimise their carbon footprint.
TPS also believes in sharing with our customers information and insights about the electricity
market, as well as interacting with them to understand their needs better. For this purpose,
we organised a series of “Journeys Into The Power Chamber” tours that are designed to give
our customers a rare glimpse into the electricity generation process at Tuas Power Station.
TPS continues to focus on the Landlord and Tenant segment. By helping our customers to
embark on en-bloc electricity purchasing from Tuas Power, we enable both landlords and tenants
to enjoy benefits that they would otherwise not be able to. These benefits include savings on
their electricity bills, as well as the value-added services we provide to our customers such as
the Tuas Power Green Programme.
Our efforts have not gone unrecognised. For example, one of our major customers,
Total Petrochemicals South East Asia Pte Ltd, recognised Tuas Power as its Most Value-Added
Supplier 2007. The year ahead will see TPS continuing to build long-term partnerships with
our customers, helping them manage rising energy costs, and providing more value-added
services, greater convenience and best-in-class service quality.
